The Perks of Reading about a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, has a lot of character change. At first the main character Charlie has no friends, and is really behind on the ladder of what is cool and not, until he meets Sam and Patrick. The reason that I was drawn into this pathetic kid Charlie, was because Chbosky wrote the book through Charlie, to another friend, so we really got to know him. I also think that this book is good, because none of this people have real names, because Charlie doesn't want the person he is writing to, to find out who he really is.

I don't think that anyone knows who Charlie really is, until the end- I don't even think that Charlie knows who he really is. Charlie starts High School as a loser, and doesn't have any friends, his sister doesn't even talk to him. One day, Charlie is in shop class and meets this funny senior named Patrick. He and Patrick become friends, and Patrick introduces Charlie to Sam. Charlie is in love with Sam, but he knows that Sam is dating Patrick. He finally cannot take it any longer, so he asks how long they have been dating, and Charlie did not expect the response that he got- they were step-brother and step-sister! Charlie then had a dream about kissing Sam, and since he felt bad about dreaming about Sam without her consent, he told her. Sam said that Charlie was too young for her, and Charlie said he knew but he still loved her. Sam then started dating this guy from college, whom Charlie did not like, so Sam and Charlie did not hang out as much. When Sam found out that Craig (the college boy) had been cheating on her the whole year, she broke up with him.

Sam and Charlie were alone saying goodbye to each other before Sam went off to early college, when Sam kissed Charlie. Charlie kissed back but then stopped, because he was really confused. He asked Sam why she was doing that, because in the beginning, Sam said not to love her. Sam said that even though she said it, doesn't mean that she meant it. Charlie had had this dream so many times, and when Sam started to take off his shirt and pants, he thought that everything was so pushed. He stopped her and started to cry, and she asked if he wasn't ready, and he said yes, but when he left, he didn't know what had stopped him, because he was as ready as he would ever be. Especially with Sam.

Charlie was completely quiet, had not one friend and was very behind on things at the beginning of the book and year, but as it went on, he started to gain lot's of friends, he had a girlfriend for a little while, and had started to talk a lot more. Even though in the end Charlie's choice was to not go all the way with Sam, he still had friends to talk to, and even when they left, he would know how to make new ones, because of the friendships and experiences he had had with all of this people that he loved and cared for so much.
