Responding to Make Lemonade

I read Amelia's blog about Make Lemonade by Virginia E. Wolff, because that is one of the book's that  I had read over the summer. I agree with Amelia, because she said "The beginning of the book was really depressing...". I liked the way she said this, because when I was reading the book, at first I couldn't tell what was happening, if it was describing Jolly's house or LaVaughn's house, but once I realized that they were talking about LaVaughn's house and said that Jolly's was much worse, I didn't even know how it could have gotten worse, but it did. I also liked how she said that maybe the town and stakes hadn't changed, but everyone in the story had, and it felt like the streets were a little less dirty than before. Her response made me want to read this book again and really think more deeply about everything that was happening.
I also read Sandra's blog about Make Lemonade. Even though Amelia and Sandra had both read the same book, they both had different opinions, but agreed on the fact that their friendships grow throughout the book. I liked the fact that Sandra said "LaVaughn didn't know what she was getting into when she took the job as a babysitter". I agree with her on that, because when you think you know one thing, you might be totally wrong, and it turns out to be the exact opposite. I also like how sandra said that LaVaughn wasn't just Jolly's babysitter, she was kind of her mentor, mother figure, and close friend, all at the same time. For example, she told Jolly to go back to school, and when Jolly did, she came to like it, and even though she was mad at LaVaughn for making her do it at first, her opinion totally changed.
